To cater to shifting opportunities and requests from society, SCDI organizes part of its operations into strategic initiatives. At present, the following initiatives are active.

Governing Adaptable Civil Protection

This research program studies how the civil protection of the future should be governed and organized, as digitalization and generative AI change what it is possible to do. It focuses on how societies can analyze complex events and mobilize and coordinate people, resources, information and physical infrastructure during crisis and war.

Exploring the Digital

The Future of Research

The Future of Research is an SCDI research initiative that explores how generative and agentic AI are changing the way scientific knowledge is produced, validated and funded. It develops infrastructure through which scientific rigor can reach the places where data is actually generated.

Saving the Welfare State

RAISE Monitoring Hub

RAISE is a Nordic research collaboration that is building a long-term monitoring hub to map, evaluate and make visible the societal impacts of AI systems used in public administration across the Nordic region.

Strengthening Twin Transition

Mistra BIOPATH

Mistra BIOPATH is a transdisciplinary research programme that brings together academia, industry, the financial sector and public authorities to integrate biodiversity into financial decision-making, so the financial system can help halt and reverse biodiversity loss.

UTTC is a national competence center supporting Swedish cities and municipalities in achieving climate neutrality by identifying, evaluating, and scaling digital net-zero solutions through the integration of green and digital transition.
